As a local Louisvillian there are few things closer to my heart than the Derby. This play perfectly combines the excitement of the Derby, the sensuality of a 70's key party, and the terror and destruction of a historical natural disaster. It is well though out, has excellent character development, and is absolutely hysterical. I have been involved with the production of the play, both as an actor and a stage manager, and I guarantee you, this piece is a LOT of fun to be a part of. It's technically (lights & sound) quite simple and relatively inexpensive to produce. The work demands a tight cast as it is an ensemble piece but lends itself to creating this closely-knit group almost organically. Dirty? Yes. Sexy? Most definitely. Derby? What a riot! The characters are relatable but out of this world at the same time. Each one is well developed and the flow of the piece is perfect. Staging seems like it would be pretty simple. Every time I read it, I find a new moment. And there are some sexy monologues that would be fun and unique for auditions.
Dirty Sexy Derby Play is a non-stop laugh out loud fun play! I enjoyed every bit of it. All the characters were well defined and through the play you start to feel as if you know each and everyone of them. You feel yourself rooting for some characters and others you are growing a distaste for, yet they do something that makes you laugh your ass off. I loved Dirty Sexy Derby Play!
"Dirty Sexy" is a brilliant script that can proudly stand alongside those of some of our most famous Broadway playwrights. It does precisely what I think good theater is supposed to it challenges you, makes you think, makes you laugh, and perfectly captures the humanity--(good and bad)--of each of the characters. It is a provocative script that audience members will debate, pick apart, and argue about long after the show has ended, which to me, is the mark of truly good writing. I was profoundly moved by "Dirty Sexy" when I saw it in 2008, and I loved it even more following the 2012 revival.
